As a general rule, we stopped covering miniatures releases a while back. There were just so many that it occupied a lot of time and there didn’t seem to be a lot of interest in them. Besides, there are great sites like The Miniatures Page that do a better job than we’ll be able to do here. Nevertheless, there seemed to be a lot of new releases recently and I had a minute to cover them, so here’s a sort of “hit list” of the miniatures releases I’m aware of recently:
Age of Glory has released a number of Empress Miniatures, including British infantry, Zulu warriors, and others.
Baker Company has released an “Austrian walking wounded in greatcoat and shako”, Burmese with spear, pack elephant, Siamese/Burmese militia with two swords, Prussian line infantry attacking in Picklehaubes, NVA with heavy machine gun, Zulu casualties, and others.
Baueda released 15mm Vikings DBA and BI army packs on February 9.
Dragonblood Miniatures has published pictures of its Painted Draconid Shaman miniature and says that the miniature is almost ready to ship to pre-order customers.
John Jenkins Designs has published information on its upcoming Battle on the Monongahela miniatures, the Battle on Snowshoes miniatures, and other upcoming releases.
Kallistra has recently released Teutonic Knights, a medieval siege tower, and 28mm trenches recently.
Pendraken Miniatures has released a number of new Renaissance, 16h century Ottoman Turks miniatures, American War of Independence miniatures, and World War II miniatures.
Reaper Miniatures released some Dark Heaven Legends, Warlord, and Chronoscope miniatures on 2/16/09.
Renegade Miniatures released several World War I and World War II miniatures on 2/17/09
Scale Creep Miniatures has new items from Quick Reaction Force, Navwar, and Litko in stock.
Timecast has updated its web site and is offering some Landmark Buildings at Salute and Triples.
That’s all I’ve got for now. Enjoy…
A while back, the good folks at Gale Force Nine released yet-another interesting product, magnetic bases for miniatures. As they describe them, “The Magnetic Basing System is the ultimate solution for your model basing needs. Each pack contains ready to use magnetic bases and a sheet of self-adhesive “rubber steel”. Your forces will always be battle-ready, be it in their movement trays, display boards or army transport case. Every pre-sized base is a powerful magnet, topped with molded plastic. Simply mount your miniature as you would on any standard plastic base, paint and flock the base and your model is ready to take to the battlefield. The magnetic base will adhere to any ferrous surface and is strong enough to hold even metal models in place.”
If you’re looking for a good basing product for your miniatures, you might want to check these out.
Armorcast has released a “Steam Dragon” miniature, which is basically a steampunk version of a traditional dragon. They’ve also released several pieces of Cityscape terrain, including soda machines, candy machines, parking meters, lampposts, jersey barriers, billboards, and street signs. For pictures and more information, see the Armorcast web site.
Until January 29, 2009, the 15mm.co.uk site is reportedly offering 15% off list prices for all miniatures. Purchasers must enter the code “1506″ in the discount box during checkout to get the reduced price. For more information and details, see their web site.
As I announced a while back, we’re not going to cover new miniatures on this site as a general topic anymore. However, I will cover sales on miniatures when I uncover them, or if a new release happens to pique my curiosity or looks really “neat” to me I will cover it here. Such is the case with two of the newest releases from Pulp Figures in their “Radon Zombies of the Ionosphere” line.
Recently, Pulp Figures released packs number 2 and number 3 in this line, and while I don’t play any games for which they’d be useful to me, I do think they’re neat to look at:

These have a very 1950′s sort of “Forbidden Planet” kind of feel to them, which may be what I enjoy about looking at them. They make me think of the old pulp sci-fi films.
The Armorcast site is featuring a number of new Christmas and other miniatures, including the “Kandy Kane” Christmas elf pictured below. The list of new miniatures includes:
XMAS002 Kandy Kane the Xmas Elf $5.00
XMAS001 Ginfritter the Gift Giving Gnome $5.00
(00204) Archangel Michael $6.99
(00205) Guardian Angel $6.99
(00206) Angel Gabriel $6.99
(00202) Pegasus Mare & Foal $14.99
(00203) Unicorn Mare & Foal $8.99

Periodically, I like to remind fellow sci-miniatures gamers that they can pick up some inexpensive miniatures from Studio Bergstrom. These are not the expensive, official miniatures you might find for sci-fi properties such as Stargate SG-1, Star Wars, or other well-known science-fiction names. Rather, they’re miniatures inspired by big-name properties that would look good alongside the real thing.
Currently in the Studio Bergstrom catalog are a “Stargate Picture Frame”, F.E.D. ships that look a lot like Star Trek ships, “Galactics” starships which resemble a similarly-named sci-fi show’s ships, “I.M.P.” ships that might look at home with Darth Vader inside, and others. They’re all pretty reasonably priced as well. Most fighter-sized ships are priced in the $1.25-$1.50 range.
I should point out that I get absolutely no kickbacks, commissions, or compensation of any kind from Studio Bergstrom.
Wyrd
Miniatures posted the following Gen Con Indy news on their
web site:
Stop by and see us in our double booth at #1332 where we’ll have all of
our studio paint jobs on display as well as the metal addiction we’ve
all come to love. We’ll have the full lineup of Wyrd minis released to
date as well as an additional six (6) miniatures which we are
pre-releasing at GenCon.
As always, we’re going to be running a few specials and give aways
during the convention. For every $25USD you spend at the booth, you get
a raffle ticket with which you’ll have a chance to win one of our
studio painted miniatures which will be on display at the convention
(purchases are cumulative, $50 gets two tickets, $75 three tickets ..
etc). On Sunday we’ll be making the drawing for the winner and you can
walk home with your prize, or, if you aren’t available, we’ll send it
directly to you at our cost.
Bought one of our shirts? Great! For showing your enthusiasm and
support of Wyrd Miniatures at the convention we’ll be giving away a
free miniature when you stop by our booth proudly displaying your
Wyrd’ness.
Joining the GenCon Painting Contest? Fantastic! If you’ve painted up a
Wyrd miniature, we will be doing the judging for a manufacturers award
which we’ll be giving away a $100USD coupon which is good at the booth
where you can come and snag up the latest releases for nothing. Also,
for taking the time to paint a Wyrd miniature, come on by the booth
with your painted miniature and contest entry card and we’ll give you a
free miniature for showing your Wyrd colors!
Wyrd is once again sponsoring the Paint and Take as well as the Speed
Painting event this year which will be ran by the volunteers at GenCon
T-F-S at 3pm. We understand that all of the Speed Painting slots have
been filled but that the event coordinators always factor in a couple
of extra slots so stop by and enjoy, naturally there will be prizes for
1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the Speed Painting Contests.
Lastly, Eric will be in the booth this year with a fantastic demo table
that we’ve had put together for us to showcase an early showing of our
skirmish game Malifaux. The game isn’t complete yet, and no we won’t be
selling any advance copies, this is just our way of giving an early
preview of the rules, mechanics and product.
Looking forward to meeting everyone, stop by the booth and say hi! Oh
… and buy minis.
