HPS Released France ‘14

F14-CoverHPS Simulations recently released France ‘14: First World War Campaigns for Windows.  France ‘14 is the first title in a new series from HPS entitled First World War Campaigns.  The series attempts to cover all the major campaigns of World War I, with units going down to the battalion level.  The series also seeks to demonstrate the evolution of warfare between the Napoleonic period and the Second World War by demonstrating the evolution of weapons and tactics. 

France ‘14 features 33 stand alone scenarios and 6 campaigns to choose from, including The Ardennes, Mons, La Cateau, Guise, 1st Marne, 1st Aisne, 1st Arras, 1st Ypres, Sorties out of Antwerp, Assaults on Leige and Namur, and more.

The game represents all major aspects of warfare during the period, including deadly machine guns, the evolution of cavalry, the birth of aviation, the power of siege artillery, the firepower of massed artillery, field guns, and more.

It requires a 1GHz Pentium, 512MB RAM, 300MB of hard drive space, Windows 98 and up, and 32-bit color.  (Windows 95 and below are not supported.)

It’s priced at $49.95 as of this writing.

Wargame News–04/19/2011

  • GMT Games has posted final or near-final versions of the rulebooks for Sekigahara and Sun of York.
  • Jeux Grenier Games is reducing its catalog, getting rid of a number of titles that includes: Distant Foreign Fields, Quelques Arpents de Neige, Operation Weserubung, In the Trenches: Opening Engagements, and In the Trenches: The Lost Generation.
  • HPS Simulations has released (in the past few months): PzC Budapest v1.02, Renaissance v1.03, Gallic Wars v1.06, Punic Wars v1.08, and Naval Campaigns: Jutland v1.06.
  • It was sad to hear of the recent troubles experienced by Pacific Rim Publishing, involving deaths in the family, a web site crash, etc.  I wish them the best.  Pacific Rim is a great company, with a very high ethical standard, and deserves all the business it can get.
  • Wargamedownloads.com has recently added three new titles to their catalog:  Distant Vistas, Red Sand Blue Sky, and Somalia Interventions.
  • Simmons Games has added Napoleon’s Triumph to its product line.
  • Operation Studies Group is hosting "The Campaigns for Germany" or "Napoleonic Tour 2011" from May 22-29, 2011.  For more information, see their web site.
  • Heat of Battle Games is offering Kustenjager! Special Forces II War in the Aegean Sea, a battle pack with scenarios representing the Kustenjagers.  It’s compatible with the ASL Game System or other tactical level wargames.
  • MCS Group is taking pre-orders for Stryker: US Mechanized Operations in the War on Terror, which puts you in command of a US Army Stryker mechanized unit in the War on Terror.
  • Lock ‘n Load Publishing announced the availability of Line of Fire #9, and Warparty (which they describe as "Axis and Allies meets Dungeons and Dragons".
  • Caldea: The Epic Strategy Game is available for $24.95 with free shipping (or $10 off) until April 30, 2011.
  • Bellica 3rd Generation is taking preorders for Eagles Rising: Age of Muskets Vol. II.
  • Multiman Publishing is offering Bastogne at the sale price of $33.00 as of this writing and is taking pre-orders for Canadian Crucible at $39.00.
  • Frontline General has released Bonus Spearpoint 1943 Situations (IX – German Airfield)
  • Victory Point Games has A Blood-Red Banner (The Alamo) on sale.  This is a solitaire Battlesson™ siege game set in 1836.

Three New Titles from HPS Simulations

According the “What’s New” page on the HPS Simulations web site, three new titles have been released:

Squad Battles: Dien Bien Phu
This game covers the period of 1946-1954 when a force of Moroccans, Senegalese, Algerians, Legionnaires, Vietnamese, Those, and others sought to retain France’s hold on Indochina and were opposed by the nationalist communist forces of the Viet Minh. It’s currently available for the introductory price of $39.95 until August 1, 2009, after which the price will increase to $49.95.

Total War in Europe: War on the Southern Front
War on the Southern Front is the second installment in HPS’ Total War in Europe series. It focuses on the ground and air campaigns fought in the regions surrounding the Mediterranean in 1940-1943. It includes the Italian invasion of Greece in 1940, the German invasion of the Balkans, Rommel and the Afrika Korps, and the Allied invasion of Sicily. Each scenario covers a campaign or major battle, such as the battle for Tobruk. It’s currently priced at $39.95 until August 1, 2009, at which time the introductory price will expire and the new retail price will be $49.95.

Ancient Warfare: Alexandrian Wars
Alexandrian Wars is the third title in the HPS Ancient Warfare series. It features 44 scenarios, including 20 historical, 16 hypothetical, and 8 from the tabletop series. The scenarios cover actions such as Chaeronea, Pelium, Gabai, and Hydaspes. A scenario editor is included to allow players to create their own scenarios from scratch, edit existing scenarios, and created their own Order of Battles. It’s currently offered at the introductory price of $39.95 until August 1, 2009, at which time the retail price will increase to $49.95.
