The Gamer Hotsheet was started by Mike Salsbury in 2006 as a way to share news and information about tabletop gaming, including wargaming, miniatures gaming, board games, role-playing games, card games, and other “traditional” games played without a computer or video game console. Since then, coverage has expanded to include smartphone, iPod/iPad/iPhone games, and other products of interest to the author.
As much as I enjoy reading about and sharing gaming news with you here via this site, the reality is that it’s not how I make my living. It’s a “best effort” kind of thing. When my wife, step-children, family, employer, etc., don’t need me, I try to find the time to post news here. That means there can be long pauses between news updates, but as long as this site is here you can assume I’ve not given up on it completely.
Because I don’t always have the time to keep the site updated, I don’t accept outside advertising except through Google AdSense (since it mostly works on autopilot). If you want to show your support for this site, turn off any ad blocker you’re using in your browser while you’re here and have a look at the advertising. I’ve seen some great companies listed there, and they deserve your business if they offer something you like.
You can also show your support by visiting Amazon.com via this link (or most any other Amazon link on the site) and buying products from them. I receive approximately 4% of your total order from them and the price you pay is exactly the same whether you use my link or not… so you get a great Amazon deal and you support this site at the same time.
If you’re a little short on cash, a post in your favorite gaming forum linking here, a link on your own gaming site, or just a referral to a gaming friend would be great as well. Seeing this site’s traffic increase always makes me happy.
If you’d like to share a gaming tidbit with me, let me know about a company that offers some great gaming products (even if you work for them!), please feel free to email the name “gamerhotsheet”. That’s half the address. The other half of the address is the domain found at this link (specifically in the nice logo graphic at the top of the page). Please do not be discouraged if you do not get a quick response to an email sent to that address. I don’t check it every day.

The Settlers of Catan™ are coming to America
(Plant City, FL) – Fans of the award-winning, multi-million selling The Settlers of Catan™ will have new lands to settle soon. To celebrate the 234th anniversary of the United States and the 15th anniversary of The Settlers of Catan™, Mayfair Games is proud to announce that Catan Histories: Settlers of America, Trails to Rails™ is set to be released in the United States on Thursday, July 15 at hobby and game stores around the country. Designed by Klaus Teuber, this new Catan adventure uses a map of the United States, along with the familiar Catan hex-tile grid.
The game focuses on 19th Century Americans as they head west. Wagon trains are formed up and sent out to settle new lands and build new cities. The new cities need railroad lines to bring in necessary goods. Players link these cities with rails of steel and operate their railroads to supply the townsfolk with goods. To do the players will need to gather and trade their resources wisely.
Settlers of America, Trails to Rails™ debuted at the Origins Game Fair in Columbus, OH (June 24-27, 2010); it will be available for sale at hobby and game shops on July 15, 2010. For those who have played The Settlers of Catan™, this game is as accessible and fun as the original. There are trades to be made and cities to be built; are you ready to leave the island of Catan and head towards America?
Mayfair Games, founded in 1981, is an independent publisher of high quality games designed for gamers and family play.
