Hour of Glory Price Reductions at Warm Acre

The Warm Acre web site has announced that they are reducing the prices of the Hour of Glory rule set and Bunker 3D card construction set for a limited time.

The Hour of Glory rules have been reduced from $17.95 to $10. This is a game of espionage and counter-espionage set in World War II. The Axis has established a research facility in The Stronghold that holds a secret while will give the Third Reich a power none will oppose. The Axis forces must protect The Stronghold, while finding and eliminating Allied spies. The Allies’ secret SABRE brigade must infiltrate the stronghold and steal critical intelligence data. The game consists of a 60-page color rulebook, color playing cards and counters, 10 color board tiles. It’s designed for ages 12 and up, 2-4 players, with a playing time of approximately an hour.

The Hour of Glory Bunker 3D set has been reduced from $8.95 to $8.00. This PDF allows you to build a 3D version of The Stronghold. The set allows you to build 10 rooms, corridors, opening doors, and features/fittings to furnish the bunker. It’s designed for 28mm miniatures.

Multiman Publishing News 02/22/2009

According to the Multiman Publishing web site, a few of the older games from The Gamers are back in stock and available, all at reduced prices. The available games at press time include: NBS Marengo, NBS Talavera, TCS Leros, TCS Black Wednesday, and TCS Hunters from the Sky.

The Standard Combat Series Bastogne, a one-map game depicting the American stand at Bastogne against overwhelming odds, is no longer available for pre-order pending preparation for shipment to pre-order customers. The game will begin shipping Monday 2/23. The game will be available for purchase on the site after preorders and wholesale/retail orders are shipped.

Recent Miniatures Releases

As a general rule, we stopped covering miniatures releases a while back. There were just so many that it occupied a lot of time and there didn’t seem to be a lot of interest in them. Besides, there are great sites like The Miniatures Page that do a better job than we’ll be able to do here. Nevertheless, there seemed to be a lot of new releases recently and I had a minute to cover them, so here’s a sort of “hit list” of the miniatures releases I’m aware of recently:

Age of Glory has released a number of Empress Miniatures, including British infantry, Zulu warriors, and others.

Baker Company has released an “Austrian walking wounded in greatcoat and shako”, Burmese with spear, pack elephant, Siamese/Burmese militia with two swords, Prussian line infantry attacking in Picklehaubes, NVA with heavy machine gun, Zulu casualties, and others.

Baueda released 15mm Vikings DBA and BI army packs on February 9.

Dragonblood Miniatures has published pictures of its Painted Draconid Shaman miniature and says that the miniature is almost ready to ship to pre-order customers.

John Jenkins Designs has published information on its upcoming Battle on the Monongahela miniatures, the Battle on Snowshoes miniatures, and other upcoming releases.

Kallistra has recently released Teutonic Knights, a medieval siege tower, and 28mm trenches recently.

Pendraken Miniatures has released a number of new Renaissance, 16h century Ottoman Turks miniatures, American War of Independence miniatures, and World War II miniatures.

Reaper Miniatures released some Dark Heaven Legends, Warlord, and Chronoscope miniatures on 2/16/09.

Renegade Miniatures released several World War I and World War II miniatures on 2/17/09

Scale Creep Miniatures has new items from Quick Reaction Force, Navwar, and Litko in stock.

Timecast has updated its web site and is offering some Landmark Buildings at Salute and Triples.

Twilight Creations to Receive Reiner Knizia’s Zombiegeddon

According to the Twilight Creations web site, Reiner Knizia’s Zombiegeddon game will be arriving to their warehouse around February 20, 2009. Zombiegeddon is described as “a fast-paced, perfect-information, strategy game” in which each player rushes around the board during the first half of the game collecting supplies and trying to prevent other players from getting theirs. The second half of the game is spent surviving. It’s a game for 2-4 players age 12 and up. The suggested retail price is $24.99.

Shrapnel Announces Battle Group Commander

Shrapnel Games announced a new episodic series of modern warfare simulations for the PC, Battle Group Commander. Battle Group Commander: Episode One comes from ProSIM Company, and focuses pits a battle group (consisting of armor, infantry, artillery, and other assets) against a Soviet-style enemy in the Salisbury Plain Training Area of England. The game uses the same engine as ProSIM’s Air Assault Task Force game, and reportedly is as close to a professional grade simulation as can be purchased commercially.

Privateer Releases New HORDES and WARMACHINE Editions

Seattle WA. February 9, 2009-Privateer Press, Inc. is proud to announce the new Mk II edition rules for its WARMACHINE and HORDES tabletop games.

“In the past six years of WARMACHINE, the game has grown rapidly, and we feel the time has come to reevaluate and retool in preparation for the upcoming years of full metal combat. We have chosen to tighten the bolts on both the general game rules and the individual model rules to make every model as compelling as possible and to perfect the WARMACHINE experience,” stated Jason Soles, Privateer Press lead developer.

The public will get their first look at the WARMACHINE Mk II rules in April through an open field test, allowing players to become familiar with the changes while providing feedback that will assist Privateer Press in making final adjustments to WARMACHINE Mk II before going to press.

The WARMACHINE: Prime Mk II rulebook will be released to the public in early 2010. The new edition of HORDES will follow later in the year. All tournaments, leagues, and release events that make up Privateer Press organized play will adopt the new edition on its release.

Hasbro to Release CLUE: Secrets and Spies This Fall

War In Europe Windows Edition is Being Printed

According to the Decision Games web site, The War in Europe Windows Edition manual has been sent to the printer. The wraps, boxes, and CDs will be printed next. Decision Games encourages pledge customers to get their confirmation and checks in quickly so their shipment isn’t delayed. Orders will reportedly continue to be accepted at the pledge price until shipping starts (expected to be the week of March 23, 2009).

“Hack in the Dark” Coming March 1

The Classical Hack web site announced that “Hack in the Dark” is planned for a March 1, 2009, release. Hack in the Dark is a “fast play game system following in the style of Classical Hack Second Edition for period play in the Dark Ages 250 to 1000 A.D.” A PDF of the introduction to the rules is available for download free on the Classical Hack site.
