The Schutze Games web site lists a new title, Eureka Stockade. Designed by Peter Schutze, Eureka Stockade features a battle that’s “as close as Australia ever came to a civil war” when “Just before dawn, troops from 2 British regiments, supported by police, stormed the miners’ stockade.” The title is priced at $5 and is available from our former advertiser wargamedownloads.com.

Red Shirt Games 2008 Convention Photos
The great folks at Red Shirt Games (look in the history on this site and you’ll see I tend to rave about them every year at Origins) have published their 2008 convention photos. As I looked through them, I was surprised to see my own face posted there! If you’re curious to see what I look like (and I warn you, you may be disappointed because I’m no Brad Pitt), click here and scroll down the page until you see a picture where someone is “flipping the bird” to a bad dice roll. To the left of that colorful photo, you’ll see a shot of 3 people playing Injurius Games. The guy in the black shirt is me. If you need to help your eyes recover from that sight, move further down the page to the “Things of Beauty and Oddities” section, where you’re practically guaranteed to see something far more attractive…
Privateer Releases Monsterpocalypse I Chomp NY Expansion
Seattle WA, January 22, 2009 — Privateer Press announces the first expansion
to its highly successful Monsterpocalypse collectible miniature game, Series 2:
I Chomp NY. The expansion is set to release in March 2009 and contains 52 new
high-quality pre-painted plastic miniatures, available in randomized boosters,
for use with Monsterpocalypse: Rise.
When asked what the new expansion meant for Monsterpocalypse, Privateer Press
playtest coordinator David Carl stated, “I Chomp NY expands the power and
versatility of each Monsterpocalypse faction with all-new monsters and units.
This set also introduces the new monument structures–awesome reproductions of
the world-famous landmarks from the New York City skyline, including the Statue
of Liberty and more!”
I Chomp NY will feature two booster types. The Monster/Structure Booster (PIP
50009, MSRP $12.99) will contain either a random monster’s alpha and hyper forms
or a random monument building and the Insurance Company HQ building. The Unit
Booster (PIP 50010, MSRP $9.99) will contain five randomly assorted units. The
new expansion will have a single production run and will be available at
independent hobby game and comic stores only while supplies last.
To support retailers as they celebrate the release of I Chomp NY, and due to
the overwhelming popularity of the Rise retail launch kit, Privateer Press
announces the Monsterpocalypse: I Chomp NY Retail Launch Kit (PIP 50011). This
new launch kit includes 21 free limited-edition C-Type Shinobi shadow units;
players receive one limited-edition figure for every five boosters they purchase
in one transaction from their local game store. The new program ensures everyone
can participate in the I Chomp NY launch celebration–and possibly even walk away
with a full play set of five shadow C-Type Shinobi.
Privateer Press will also be offering a box-top redemption program for the
first I Chomp NY limited-edition monster mega form. For a limited time, players
who collect 12 I Chomp NY booster box tops, from their local game store only,
will be able to send them (with receipts) to Privateer Press to receive a mega
Pteradax figure. Visit www.monsterpocalypse.com in the
coming weeks for more information on this exciting promotion.
Privateer Press will also continue to offer free Monsterpocalypse organized
play support for I Chomp NY. Retailers can register for their free event support
kits at www.privateerevents.com. Each free
support kit includes a limited-edition shadow figure from I Chomp NY for every
pre-registered player as well as highly sought-after mega forms of various I
Chomp NY monsters. Support kits will become available with the release of I
Chomp NY.
New Shirts from Offworld Designs
The Offworld Designs web site lists two new shirts. The first is a Serenity Valley shirt in brown, depicting the Serenity Valley logo and the slogan “All gave some, some gave all”. Unless I miss my guess, this is a reference to the battle discussed in the Firefly TV series and Serenity movie. The second is a black shirt depicting a hex-based logo and the words “Cardiff Weevil Retrieval Unit“. This refers to the BBC series Torchwood.

GF9 Releases New Magnetic Base Sizes
A while back, the good folks at Gale Force Nine released yet-another interesting product, magnetic bases for miniatures. As they describe them, “The Magnetic Basing System is the ultimate solution for your model basing needs. Each pack contains ready to use magnetic bases and a sheet of self-adhesive “rubber steel”. Your forces will always be battle-ready, be it in their movement trays, display boards or army transport case. Every pre-sized base is a powerful magnet, topped with molded plastic. Simply mount your miniature as you would on any standard plastic base, paint and flock the base and your model is ready to take to the battlefield. The magnetic base will adhere to any ferrous surface and is strong enough to hold even metal models in place.”

The Gamer Hotsheet in 2009
It’s hard to believe it’s January again, but I have to admit a certain amount of relief in having 2008 behind me. In March 2008, I had two surgeries back-to-back to correct 3 different problems. On September 11, my mother passed away after a two-year battle with cancer. A week after her funeral, I was diagnosed with a different kind of cancer. In October, I underwent another surgery to remove the cancer, along with my thyroid. Through late November and December, I was taken off medication, placed on a restrictive diet, and given a dose of radiation to kill remaining cancer and thyroid tissue. It’s not over yet, but I hope the worst is behind me.
The last few weeks I took a break from blogging, including this site. I spent some quality time with Grand Theft Auto IV, which I finally beat yesterday. I spent a little time with Spore, and a title from Valve’s Steam service called “Space Trader” that wasn’t bad (but not great, either). I’ve also caught up on a bunch of television programs my TiVo collected for me, including the last couple of seasons of Stargate Atlantis.
Looking ahead to 2009, I plan to post more game reviews, more World of Warcraft tips as I learn new things about the game, more wargame news, and more game news period. I plan to attend at least Origins 2009 and Gen Con Indy 2009, and other events if I can.
I have a netbook now (an Asus 1000H) that will allow me to do some blogging on my lunch hour at work, and an iPod Touch that could help out in a pinch where there’s WiFi access. With any luck, this will help make the stream of news a bit more consistent than in the past.
If you have any recommendations for The Gamer Hotsheet in 2009, please feel free to post them in the comments for this article. I’m open to anything that will make this a more interesting and useful site for you.
