SEATTLE, WA – Privateer Press, Inc., publisher of the hit tabletop miniatures games WARMACHINE® and HORDES™, announced today its plans to produce a pre-painted collectible miniatures game (CMG) named Monsterpocalypse.

Monsterpocalypse brings the kaiju (loosely translated from Japanese as ‘giant monster’) genre – a pop culture favorite – to the tabletop in the form of a fast-paced, action-packed CMG.  Designed by Matt Wilson, the award winning creator of WARMACHINE and HORDES, Monsterpocalypse leverages the critically acclaimed abilities of Privateer Press as a leading miniatures manufacturer to enter a new category of product with a property that will appeal to a world-wide fan base of all ages.

“We’ve had great success in the hobby miniatures category, and we will continue to support and expand our offerings there. We are excited to grow the company in this new direction. Creating a property about giant monsters is a natural fit for us and something I’ve always wanted to do.” said Wilson.

The Monsterpocalypse CMG will launch with over 80 figures in the initial set and will include large-scale monsters, destroyable city structures, and vehicles. It is planned for release at retail in 2008.  Figures will be sold in randomized booster packs and non-randomized starter games, and special figures will be available at events throughout 2008. Visit www.privateerpress.com for photos of prototype models andupdates about the game.

Blue Panther Releases Taiji

The following article was imported from our old content management system on 08/10/2008. It may contain missing links and missing images which we do not plan to go back and correct. We apologize for any inconvenience.

The Blue Panther web site offers a new strategy game called Taiji.

TAIJI is a strategy board game for 2 players ages 7 and up. TAIJI is a Chinese term that means ‘Great Duality’ and represents the fight of Good vs. Evil, Light vs. Darkness, YIN vs. YANG. But YIN and YANG are indivisible! That’s why both players use the same indivisible “dual” pieces called TAIJITUS.

The object of the game is to get the highest score summing up the two largest shapes of connected squares of your colour (DARK or LIGHT) by placing TAIJITUS anywhere you want in the board, as long as there’s a free space to do so. Be careful! Every time you put a TAIJITU you’re playing both colours! So you might be helping your opponent!

Now available in 1st Edition, Taiji Contains:
1 Playing Board
40 Taijitu (playing tiles)
Rules For: 2 players
To learn: 2 minutes
To play: 15-30 minutes

Advanced Tactics: World War II Ready for Release

The following article was imported from our old content management system on 08/10/2008. It may contain missing links and missing images which we do not plan to go back and correct. We apologize for any inconvenience.

From the good folks at Matrix Games comes the following press release:

Achtung! Achtung! World War II turn-based excellence now deployed to the battlefield

Matrix Games and VR Designs (www.advancedtactics.org) are thrilled to announce that Advanced Tactics: World War II is now available for release! Now gamers can experience the addicting, versatile gameplay and powerful randomization features found in Advanced Tactics: World War II, which gives them total freedom to try any tactic or strategy to crush the enemy and includes infinite replayability.

David Heath, Director of Operations at Matrix Games, said “Showcasing VR Designs’ game design talents, Advanced Tactics: World War II will give gamers a great list of scenarios from World War II as well as fictional conflicts to test their tactical mettle.  However, where I think the game really shines is in its incredible random scenario generation abilities, which offer gamers infinite tactical situations to keep them playing for hours and still coming back for more!”

Victor Reijkersz of VR Designs also added, “Working with Matrix Games has been great and I’m positively thrilled that Advanced Tactics: World War II is now available for purchase through the Matrix Games network. Advanced Tactics was a blast to develop and we’re ready to support and build a strong player community based on this release.”

Advanced Tactics is a versatile turn-based strategy system that gives gamers the chance to wage almost any battle in any time period. The first module in this series is Advanced Tactics: World War II, which allows gamers to hop into a Panzer and storm across Europe. Complete with a streamlined interface and an addicting style of gameplay, Advanced Tactics offers a unique and infinitely replayable experience for any strategy fan.  Depending on the scenario, you can decide what your towns should produce, which HQs receive reinforcements, how your chain of command is formed, what sort of troop and equipment mix you put in each unit, if you use air, land, or sea strategies or maybe even call in the paratroopers – the possibilities are endless! Almost any type of strategy or tactic can be used effectively in Advanced Tactics

To round out Advanced Tactics’ features, it also includes a very powerful scenario editor that allows gamers to recreate their favorite historical scenarios or simple fabricate their own fictional conflicts.  World War 2 buffs will enjoy Advanced Tactics’ numerous historical scenarios from the period like: Gothic Line, Afrika Korps, the Russian Front, Endsieg and two huge human vs. human full-theater scenarios on the Eastern Front and the Pacific War.  There are also fictional scenarios ranging from a Second American Civil War and a Kursk-like battle to perfectly balanced scenarios designed for PBEM match play.  Furthermore, for players with only the time to play and not create their own scenarios there is a powerful and easy-to-use random scenario generator that will keep gameplay fresh with minimum user input to create new missions and campaigns beyond those that come with the package.

Adamant Released The Imperial Age: Victorian Monstrosities

The following article was imported from our old content management system on 08/10/2008. It may contain missing links and missing images which we do not plan to go back and correct. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Adamant Entertainment announced the following new release on their web site today:

The Imperial Age: Victorian Monstrosities

The literature of the Victorian era has generated, refined, and fostered a great number of monstrosities that have endured to this very day. Who hasn’t heard of Count Dracula or Frankenstein’s Monster? What of the Martian invasion or the exploits of the Invisible Man? And who could forget the ultimate in personality disorders in the form of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde?

There are a number of lesser known but just as fearsome literary Victorian monstrosities. Count Dracula did not appear on the printed page until 1897; however, the Victorian vampire myth was alive and well in the forms of Lord Ruthven, Varney, and Carmilla. Other monstrosities in the same mould included Brunhilda and Lady Ducayne. Pharos had a different spin on the mummy, while the Great God Pan destroyed the lives of mortals.

…And all of these literary creations paled in comparison to the factual and all-too-human Victorian monstrosity– the anonymous and uncaptured serial killer known as Jack the Ripper, as well as the urban legend of Spring-heeled Jack.

The Imperial Age: Victorian Monstrosities collects all of these terrors and more, ready for use in your Victorian-era d20 campaign. Also included as an appendix is a complete open gaming system for handling horror using the d20 Modern rules set, as well as new feats, a new talent tree and a new template.

Arthaus Winter eQuarterly Contest

The following article was imported from our old content management system on 08/10/2008. It may contain missing links and missing images which we do not plan to go back and correct. We apologize for any inconvenience.

From the White Wolf Arthaus web site comes the following information:

Greetings to all you White Wolf fans out there! This is John Rosebush, White Wolf’s latest and/or greatest development intern, and I’ve been given the dubious honor of assembling the upcoming 2008 Winter Quarterly, covering the first part of next year.

Now you might ask; “But John, has the last quarterly even been released yet?”

No, no it hasn’t. I’m getting a jump on the new one. So anyway, what would you say if I told you that you could pen the next White Wolf publication? Well you can’t! Not really, anyway, but you can do the next best thing. I am looking for the very best of the best fanart and faniction to include in the upcoming quarterly. I’d write it myself, but due to some “conflict of interest” legal mumbo jumbo I can’t, so I’ll have to fall back on my plan B: You! So just send your stories, art, house rules, and whatever else you can throw at me to: jrosebush@white-wolf.com. The subject can be any White Wolf game currently published, so go nuts. Please keep it to one writing and/or one art submission per fan, as all others will be burned as I laugh and dance. Your stories may have accompanying art, but if you’re supremely gifted in one of those fields but spectacularly deficient in the other, I can’t guarantee they’ll be shown together. Bear in mind that we don’t get paid for the quarterly, I don’t get paid for the….anything, and you sure as heck won’t be. What you will receive is the respect and admiration (and the jealousy, let’s not forget the jealousy) of your fellow role-players.

For information on entering, eligibility, etc., see the full announcement on the Arthaus site.

Hardcover Book of WoW TCG Card Art Announced

The following article was imported from our old content management system on 08/10/2008. It may contain missing links and missing images which we do not plan to go back and correct. We apologize for any inconvenience.

CARLSBAD, Calif. (October 19, 2007) – Upper Deck and Blizzard Entertainment® today announced the January 2008 release of a new hardcover book titled World of Warcraft®: The Art of the Trading Card Game, which will feature artwork created for the highly popular World of Warcraft Trading Card Game (TCG). Published by Chronicle Books, the 288-page, 11”x9” book will include more than 300 full-color iconic pieces of art featured during the first year of release of the World of Warcraft TCG.

World of Warcraft: The Art of the Trading Card Game will feature a collection of sketches, paintings and finished artwork highlighting a selection of World of Warcraft’s most valiant heroes, devastating spellcasters and bloodthirsty creatures created by some of today’s top fantasy artists. These artists include Todd McFarlane (Spawn), Greg Staples (Judge Dredd), Zoltan Boros and Gabor Szikszai (InQuest Gamer magazine’s “Artists of the Year” recipients), Marcelo Vignali (Disney Animation), and Todd Lockwood (Forgotten Realms), among others.

“World of Warcraft is a global phenomenon that boasts a large base of people who not only actively play the online game and TCG, but who also really enjoy the artwork in the games,” said Tim Muret, Vice President of Upper Deck Authenticated. “We wanted to release a book for these players as well as celebrate the great work of these artists.”

Insightful forewords are given by Blizzard’s Senior Art Director, Samwise Didier, and Art Lead Glenn Rane. Jeremy Cranford, Art Acquisitions Manager for Upper Deck Entertainment, provides the book’s introduction.

Based on Blizzard Entertainment’s hit massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), the TCG allows players to experience the action and adventure of World of Warcraft in a new format. Released in October 2006, the TCG’s premiere set quickly became the hottest and most-sought-after trading card game in the industry, prompting UDE to print additional quantities to support the overwhelming demand.

World of Warcraft is the most popular MMORPG in the world, with more than 9 million subscribers playing the game in North America, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Europe, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. In World of Warcraft, players assume the roles of legendary heroes and interact with thousands of other players online as they explore, adventure, and quest across a vast realm. Whether journeying together or fighting against one another in epic battles, players form friendships, forge alliances, and compete against enemies for power and glory.

UDE Adding Multi-Player to Vs. System with Coming of Galactus

The following article was imported from our old content management system on 08/10/2008. It may contain missing links and missing images which we do not plan to go back and correct. We apologize for any inconvenience.

CARLSBAD (October 11, 2007) – Galactus the World Devourer is returning to Earth, and this time, Vs. System™ players around the world will be able to join forces to stop him. In November, Upper Deck Entertainment (UDE) will introduce the very first Vs. System multiplayer expansion set with Giant-Size Vs: The Coming of Galactus. Taking the Vs. System’s game representation of Super Hero combat to the next level, The Coming of Galactus will be available at most participating retail and hobby stores across the U.S.

For the first-time ever in the Vs. System, players will have a chance to form an alliance with friends to take on the Devourer of Worlds himself, Galactus. The combined powers of the Fantastic Four were enough to drive off this epic foe, but what about the combined powers of the X-Men, the Spider-Friends and the Avengers? Players will get to answer that question themselves as they take their favorite decks into battle against Galactus and his Heralds.

The set will feature brand-new cards designed especially for a true multiplayer experience, in addition to new and exclusive cards that can be played in any traditional Vs. System deck. Players can use these cards in the decks they take into battle or use them as rewards when they finally manage to defeat Galactus.

Each Coming of Galactus set includes an 80-card Galactus deck, five randomly inserted cards (20 to collect), an oversized Galactus card, a UDE Points card and a rulebook. The Galactus deck is designed to be played against decks from any other Vs. System release.

The Vs. System game engine represents epic Super Hero™ battles in a TCG format. Development of the game included testing by top professional TCG players from around the world to ensure that the Vs. System is carefully balanced for high-level competition, as well as casual play. Vs. System players can find organized play programs supporting all levels of competitive gameplay, from Hobby League to the Pro Circuit.

Shrapnel Offering Discount on ProSIM PC Games

The following article was imported from our old content management system on 08/10/2008. It may contain missing links and missing images which we do not plan to go back and correct. We apologize for any inconvenience.

From the Shrapnel Games web site comes the following offer:

Hampstead, NC, 11 October, 2007

Congress may have hundreds of billions of dollars to wage war with, but chances are you don’t have that kind of cash hiding in your couch. Rather than raising a computer war tax by lowering your kid’s allowance, Shrapnel Games invites you to take part in a modern warfare special sale that will leave you shocked and awed.

Running from October 11th through October 24th all ProSIM titles are discounted $5.00 off their normal retail price, but that’s not all! If you purchase two or more your wallet will see an additional $2.00 discount per ProSIM title. These savings apply to both CD orders, and where applicable, digital download orders.

ProSIM is recognized as one of the true authorities of modern land combat in professional circles, and their commercial simulations feature equally high fidelity. All ProSIM titles feature command-time gameplay, highly detailed weapon platform databases, maps based on real world digital elevation data, intelligent AI using proven tactical decision routines, multiplayer capabilities, and full featured scenario editors. Each title also provides players with new experiences and situations that will challenge their tactical skills. Virtual commanders will discover that leading an Israeli tank force is not the same thing as commanding a British force in the Falklands, or assaulting the Taliban in Afghanistan with airmobile troops.

The complete listing of ProSIM titles available at Shrapnel Games includes:

– BCT Commander: The start of it all. Brigade/regimental combat with scenarios taking place in all your favorite hot spots: Cuba, Russia, North Korea, Iraq, and the NTC. Lots of fun maneuver action to be had.

– ATF: Armored Task Force: Follow up to BCT Commander, with a brand new engine which also forms the basis of ProSIM’s professional military simulations used by Lockheed Martin, amongst others. Single vehicle combat resolution, decision point tactics driven AI, and the ability to command entire companies or individual vehicles while letting the AI handle the rest.

– The Falklands War: 1982: Company to brigade sized units, battalion level amphibious operations. Due to the nature of the conflict there is a heavy emphasis on infantry battles. Historical and hypothetical scenarios, including such what ifs as the use of armor by both sides in the battle. Powered by the ATF engine.

– Raging Tiger: The Second Korean War: Hypothetical near future war of regime change in North Korea, also using the ATF engine. The Korean theatre provides for fascinating multi-level situations. Players will deal with refugees, and units not directly controlled by the player will be encountered. Awesome equipment database. If it’s in Korea right now, it’s in the game.

– The Star and the Crescent: Perfect for armor fans. Survey game that covers from pre-Yom Kippur battles to future hypothetical conflicts involving Israel. Intense radar modeling, along with fully realized close air support and air defense assets. Maps based on real Soviet maps of the region, down to individual buildings. Another ATF based title.

– Air Assault Task Force: The next generation ProSIM engine, and the sequel to the ATF engine. Command airmobile forces in Vietnam, Somalia, and Afghanistan, along with the airmobile training center at Fort Polk, Louisiana. Full equipment database allows many scenario types to be created, not just air assault. New and improved GUI, along with plenty of gameplay enhancements, will retrofit to any previous ProSIM title powered by the ATF engine.

Pick one up for $5.00 off, pick two or more up for a savings of $7.00 per title. Remember, you only have until October 24th to declare mission accomplished on this sale, so head on over to the Shrapnel Games e-store, the Gamers Front, today:
